Frilled Sharks were thought to be extinct until 2007. They have been recorded living as deep as 1,570 m (5,150 ft), but it is most common at depths of 50–200 m (160–660 ft) around Suruga Bay, Japan. Their long jaws mean that they cannot bite as strongly as other sharks, but they can swallow prey that is over half of their own size.
